WELCOME BACK
Halloween Parade is just around the corner! Sunday, October 30th is Trick-or-Treating in Kiel so the parade begins at 3:45! Our song this year is "Barbara Ann" made famous by The Beach Boys. You may be familar with it as the Minions sing it often. ;-)
LESSONS will begin the week of Sept. 12th so make sure to check outside the band room during the week of the 6th for the schedule to go up!
Some reminders:
Students should make every effort to attend their weekly lessons and quickly make them up if missed for any reason. Occasionally, a student will not be able to play or just cannot get to a makeup time. In this event students can also turn in a makeup report. The reports are available by clicking here - Biography Report or here - MiniResearchReport . Only one written report will be accepted per quarter.
Please encourage your child to practice - maybe a trip to a music store to pick out a new "fun" book is in order !
Also encourage them to have good hygiene practices with their instruments. Reed players should be taking their reed off every time they finish playing and swabbing their instrument. It is also a good idea to regularly wash the mouthpiece with plain old soap and water. I use a mouthpiece brush and hot water (and sometimes toothpaste or mouthwash on my own clarinet mouthpiece at home!). This is especially important if they have been sick at all.
Brass players can take off all the removable parts of their instrument and give the entire thing a bath in a shallow depth of lukewarm water. There are also snakes (like you use for your drains) to go through the tubes that do not come off of the instrument. Brass players should also frequently was their mouthpieces. Warm water and soap (even mouth wash!) work wonders!
Percussionists also should be practicing good hygiene! Wash your hands before you play. Wipe down the handles of your mallets and your drumsticks with a Clorox Wipe. You can even lightly wash your bells with some Windex and paper towel.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact myself or Mrs. Toepel!
Thank You!
Mrs. Marcus
