The inter-district public school open enrollment program allows parents to apply for their children to attend public school in a school district other than the one in which they reside.
Alternative Open Enrollment
(Outside of Open Enrollment Period
The alternative enrollment period is open for the 2026-27 school year. Please apply using the Open Enrollment Application.
Parents normally apply for open enrollment for the following school year during a three-month application period which begins in February and ends on the last weekday in April. However, 2011 Act 114 established a procedure by which parents may apply for open enrollment outside of the regular application period.
Part Time Open Enrolled
(Want 1 or 2 courses through Kiel eSchool)
Beginning in the 2018-19 school year, a pupil enrolled in a public school in the high school grades may attend public school in a nonresident school district for the purpose of taking a course offered by the nonresident school district. A pupil may attend no more than two courses at any time in nonresident school districts. Wis. Stat. 118.52
How To Apply:
1) Complete the APPLICATION DOCUMENT
2) Submit the completed application to Jennifer Owen, Kiel Virtual Schools Program Leader

3) Kiel approves/denies application
4) Resident school approves/denies application
5) Parent completes Part VII of DPI application and returns to both resident and non resident districts
6) Once all approved – Kiel eSchool sends start up information to the emailed listed on the DPI application.
7) Kiel eSchool will set the student up in the eSchool system.
8) Student will be enrolled into an online orientation course.
9) Once orientation course is complete, student will be enrolled into the requested course.
