Welcome to the online learning community of the Kiel Virtual School!! This year we begin our celebration of twenty-five years of online learning in Kiel! The Kiel eSchool, our high school program, was founded in 2002 as a means of providing area students with opportunities that transcended distance and schedule. In 2020, Between the Lakes Virtual Academy program was added for 4K-8th grade students with live lesson options.
From those early days of ITV and dial-up modems, our program has evolved and grown, including the following additions:
- Student Success Coaches
- Our own support department for students with IEPs
- Virtual Speech and Language Services
- Partnership with Wisconsin Association for Talented and Gifted learners
- Amobile planetarium, aka “The Giant Blueberry”
- Credit recovery courses
- AP and dual credit courses
- A fully online GEDO#2 program
- Dedicated online guidance counselor
We are now a micro-consortium of 26 districts, providing online services to our partners in a truly supportive collaboration, meeting student and family needs paired with fiscally responsible options.
From my time as a student at the University of Wisconsin, Silver Lake College, and Carroll University, I have enjoyed a career spanning almost three decades in public, private, charter and now virtual classrooms and offices. In that time, two things remain my north star: all students can learn, and teaching and learning are lifelong passions. There is no greater thing we can aspire to as human beings than discovery — of the world, the universe, each other, or ourselves — and ultimately love and respect for what we find. Education should be transformable – and not just on a school or even national scale. As principal, it is my honor to be in the ultimate supporting role, lifting up our staff and students and families. I may have maps and compass, but education is a journey where there should be many pilots – including the students themselves.
We are a team of dreamers, dedicated to the idea that every student can learn when given the right resources and support.
We are dedicated to student safety and health, physical, emotional, and environmental.
We are excited about opportunities as we teach students not just what they need of the known world, but how to use that knowledge to build a world we have not seen yet!
Education in the 21st century is about this fantastic task, and our staff from all over Wisconsin (and sometimes, the world!) is ready for it.
